All Because of You
In my opinion, the way words are said mean much more than the meanings of the words. This concept explains why we sometimes can understand the emotions and meanings of conversations from films that use languages that we can’t comprehend. In my highschool class, people sometimes curse each other for no reason at all, and it can be funny that way. Since the context and method of saying means more than the word, i decided to chose a factual word rather than an opinion. Other words could be said without meaning them. The word “patalo” to me is something that cannot be used sarcastically, and is also very factual. You wouldn’t be a patalo if nothing bad happened. You can only be a patalo if your team/group/etc lost/failed all because of you. However, it can also be used as an opinion of the one who said it just wants to put the blame on you. Just like other words, patalo can be used for joking too. Hence there is a difference between a patalo used for fun or for namecall and a factual patalo, the cause of all mishap. Thus I don’t want to be a factual patalo, the cause of all crap that happened.
Why choose the word patalo? It is something that anyone can be anytime. Each one has a chance of screwing up in anything. Take a look at this fictional anecdote:
It’s the last 10 seconds of the 4th quarter in basketball. Team 1 is down by 1 point. It’s team 2’s ball. Team 2 guy drives hard to the basket (since his shotclock is running out), and he gets blocked by team 1 guy “Ben”. Sadly, a team 2 guy gets the ball, but team 1 guy “Bob” steals it. Team 1 guy “Patalo” runs so fast that he is alone under team 1 basket. “Bob” passes it to him. “Patalo” is free, he shoots and misses. He gets the ball and he shoots and misses again. he gets it for the last time, and with 1 second to go he shoots, and misses but he is fouled. He misses the 2 freethrows and they lose the championship that everyone has worked hard for. Everyone else in his team will be graduating this year.
Luckily, I think (because I do not know) that I haven’t screwed up too much to make me a factual patalo. How could we avoid being such? Basically, I guess you just have to do your best and you also gotta know what your doing. Even if you screw up, it hopefully won’t be that bad, and you still might get the respect of others or at least yourself. If that’s the case then people might say “sayang” rather than call you patalo. Even if it gets so bad that you become a universal patalo when no one in the world disagrees that you screwed up, there’s still a next time to make things right (unless you failed to defuse a bomb that blew up the world).
People associate others with what they think they should, but those associations can change once you change yourself. When someone calls you something, don’t get hurt. But if you really feel offended, take some time to think why they thought of that, and think of what you should do if you think that you should do anything. One good thing about patalo, is that even if you will forever be the patalo of the instance when you screwed up, it doesn’t mean that you are a patalo, or a patalo somewhere else. But even if you can only be a factual patalo for an instance and never a patalo as a person, I don’t want to be one. Even if it’s not the saddest thing to be called, it’s one sad thing to be.

The entry is about the word “patalo” and how the author despises being associated with it. At the beginning of the entry, the author defines the word patalo in two instances, the joking and the serious. He then provided an instance that the word patalo was used and how hurtful it can be; it was during a basketball game. Finally, the entry shows that there is always a next time in case one becomes a patalo.
a. the author showed thought and effort. he had a realization that clearly shows his analysis of the word and how it can hurt. also, a realization is pretended that shows that there is always a second chance for everything.
b. the essay was clear. simple, yet effective.
c. the topic was interesting. it was very fun to read, especially since I can relate on how the word patalo can hurt a person.
Kenneth defines patalo that is used for joking and a factual patalo. Then he gives a fictional anecdote about a factual patalo. Then the text shows that there is always a next time for a patalo.
