The Horse’s Other Mouth

Have you ever been seriously called an ass? Sometimes it hurts, doesn’t it? Just the thought of people thinking of you as a stupid low form of life is demeaning. Well, I once thought “ass” couldn’t get any more degrading. That was until I came across the two-word phrase, “horse’s ass”. The first time I saw that phrase, I became immediately curious. I was filled with the urge to just google it up, so I did. I found several meanings for horse’s ass, and from what I’ve read, I’m pretty sure I don’t want to be called one.

In my search, I found that the most common use for horse’s ass is to describe a stupid or obnoxious person. Now, this isn’t far from how “ass” is used, but calling someone a horse’s ass just sounds so much more degrading. I mean, if being called an “ass” somehow hurts, how much more being called a large animal’s ass? That’s just got to hurt.

Now, horse’s ass isn’t just used as a more intense expression for “ass”, it also has it’s own uses and definitions. For example, it is sometimes used to describe, “an ass kept for breeding purposes, considered a low form of life, like a gigolo” or an “oblivious idiot who generally says and does things that draw laughter at him, for being such an unbelievable moron.” If an ass is a stupid low form of life, a horse’s ass is a moronic low form of life that embarrasses himself. By being called or regarded as a horse’s ass, one really does become worse than just the average jackass.

I must admit, there were times when I’ve been sort of an ass. I’ve done stupid things for the wrong reasons, but I don’t think I’ve ever been a horse’s ass, and I surely don’t want to ever be one. I try my best to do things the right way, and I think of what my decisions may bring and, perhaps, that is the only way I can really avoid being called or regarded as a horse’s ass.

    Evaluation:

The showed thought and effort and the transitional devices used are commendable. It was an easy read: short, but substantial. The sentences are clear and can be easily understood
