The Worst “F” Word
I’m a boy who really doesn’t get mad easily. No matter how bad someone does something to me, I wouldn’t seek revenge or fight back. I would in the form of laughing at that person and backstabbing him a bit, but that’s that. Especially with my friends, my temper meter is in the freezing level when people do or say some bad stuff about me. I’d keep my cool, knowing that everything will be alright if I don’t lose myself. However, there is this one thing I totally loathe, a word that I’d never want to be associated with. This is the word “faggot”. My blood boils every time I hear it. If a guy comes up to me and calls me this, he could just let his face prepare to meet my knuckles.
To me, “faggot” doesn’t necessarily mean being homosexual. It sounds so demeaning, leaving me enough to conclude that whoever uses that word is a real asshole, or whoever he is calling that deserves it too much. Even before looking at the dictionary, I’ve been almost a hundred percent sure that this word means more than just “gay”. True enough, “faggot” is a word that is nothing but downright offensive.
fag•got 2 (fāg’ət) Pronunciation Key
n. Offensive Slang
Used as a disparaging term for a homosexual man.
It is extremely insulting for gay people, what more for straight men like me?
One of my favorite movies is 8 Mile, where Eminem was the lead actor. There was a scene in which he was in a poor part of the neighborhood, and a lot of African Americans were in queue for some free food. They took part in verbal wars or rap wars to pass the time. One of them was a huge guy, and he started bullying a smaller gay one. He wanted the gay guy’s food. Upon seeing this, Eminem started rapping, a signal for the start of one of those rap wars. One part of Eminem’s rap went out like this:
Little maggot, you can hack it,
Paul’s gay, you’re a faggot,
At least he admits it, don’t even risk it.
Indeed, “faggot” is a very vile term. There’s nothing wrong with being homosexual. People who think they’re “all that” and step on others just for fun are the real faggots, even if they aren’t gay.
In the series Grey’s Anatomy, a big issue concerning the word “faggot” has occurred. T.R Knight claims he heard Isaiah Washington call him a “faggot”. After the season that issue happened, the network decided not to renew the contract of Washington. Although they didn’t explicitly say that that was the reason they did this, it was pretty obvious. The word was truly foul and uncalled for, leaving no choice for the network to remove Washington from the next seasons. In an interview with T.R Knight on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Knight says, “It’s an awesome word, isn’t it? I’ve never been called that to my face. So I think when that happened, something shifted, and it became bigger than myself.” Being called a faggot can seriously anger anyone.
A friend of mine has an older brother who pretty much reminds me of myself- always the happy-go-lucky type, seeming free from problems, and seldom getting angry. I’ve seen this older brother called, “stupid”, “arrogant” and even “devilish”, but he just laughed knowing they were all jokes. One time, though, a friend of his said, “shut up, you faggot!”. This was still in a comedic atmosphere, but my friend’s older brother suddenly went quiet. I saw his eyes turn from comforting brown to fiery red. “Never ever call me that again.” he said. There was no doubt he was furious.
How would I make sure I won’t ever be associated with this word? Should I always be manly and never show signs of femininity? Again, being a faggot doesn’t mean being gay for me. I could start by never being a jerk. Unlike the African American in 8 Mile, I must not look down at other people and feel superior. Maybe I should always show a tough exterior for those who have a different opinion of the meaning of the word. This should be easy because I never act gay anyway. However, the main thing I have to do is never be degrading to others. Feeling you are the best in the world makes you a real faggot. Like in my second and third example, being called a faggot would stir great chaos within me. By not being obnoxious and avoiding tactless remarks or deeds, I could totally obliterate this worst “F” word, and never be associated with it.

just to add, according to our friend GABBY,
FAGGOT (fa’ got) n.- bakla, binabae, badaf, biniboy, talyada, bayot, dyokles, manay; siyoke; bading.
wala lang!
GABBY? Ah Gabby dictionary! Hahaha guys, it’s very useful for Fil stuff! http://gabbydictionary.com

summary:
Rein said that even as a happy-go-lucky person being called a “faoogt” makes his blood boil. It has been proved that being called a faggot makes one’s blood boil. Like, during the movie 8 mile or even in the real life why Washington was removed from Grey’s Anatomy and even with normal people. The word faggot really exemplifies a degrading word not just pertaining to homosexual people but much more degrading. Rein also said that he should not look down on people and feel superior to other so as not to be associated with that word.
I think that this entry was well written and it shows that Rein really put a lot into this. The words were simple yet straight to the point.
Even as a happy-go-lucky kind of person Rein is, the mere association with the word “faggot” makes him angry out of any other kind of insults. Because the word “faggot” does not only pertain in being a homosexual person but it exemplifies a much more degrading insult. He shows that even in movies or in hollywood the word “faggot” gives a negatie connotation and could even cause you your job like Washington on Grey’s Anatomy. So much so in real life. Rein said that he would not feel superior or even look down on people so as not to be associated with that word.
This entry was very well written and it shows that Rein has certainly placed a lot of thought and effort with this entry.
